Happy Monday!

Photo courtesy of Elle Decor Magazine - December 2008.

These beautifully coloured Moroccan inspired plates simply brightened my day! So clean, fresh and vivid and filled with life. I can see a turkish delight or two nestled on the top of them, with a latte on the side.
Happy Monday to you all.

I'm Loving Jade!

Over the weekend I dined with friends at the newly renovated Mandarin Hotel, Jakarta. Xin Hwa was the restaurant of choice and menu was dim sum - which was incredibly delicious with every ounce cooked to pure perfection.
A perennial space, with a modern asian feel, soothing dimmed lighting, dark colours mixed my favourite colour - jade green!

I love the carpet -based on the chinese cloud symbol which is soft and flowing and used in many ways throughout Asia.

The serving plates are simply to die for - loving the colours and the geometric style .... of course I have ordered them!

I fell head over heels in love for this little gem when I cam across it at Friven & Co in Singapore. Hand screen printed on silk and hand stitched, all for a cool Singapore $1,800.00 !

Beach House Chic

My husband, Scott, have a favourite secret getaway place in Australia - Anna Spiro's beach house on Stradebroke Island. We love staying here, the island is small, quite and lined with stunning beaches that only reside in Queensland, Australia.

The locals are truly down to earth, and very true blue, making anytime spent here truly peaceful and relaxing.
Anna's beach house is not only a chic reflection of straddie life, it is inspiring, comfortable, functional and just a true reflection of Anna's design style. It is beach house chic at its finest!

So imagine my suprise when flicking through the latest Australian Woman's Weekly magazine, which I only ever buy when I am homesick, to come across an amazing 6 page spread of Anna's beach house!

Congrats Anna, it fabulous!, as is your hospitality! Looking forward to our next stay.

To see more of Anna's Chic Design Style, check out her blog - Absolutely Beautiful Things. I will post up some of my own phtos of Anna's Beach House when I return to my home in Jakarata.

... and now I am even more homesick! Bugger!!!

I'm Loving - Jonathan Adler

In a changing world where safe always seems right, along comes Jonathan Adler! His innate ability to bring colour, quirkiness and the element of fun together in a liveable, functional mix is undoubtedly not safe, but extraordinarily chic!

Johnathan Adler's Manifesto for living just tickles me pretty! So had to share it with you ...

We believe that your home should make you happy.
We believe that when it comes to decorating, the wife is always right.
Unless the husband is gay.

We believe in carbohydrates and to hell with the puffy consequences.

We believe minimalism is a bummer.

We believe handcrafted tchotchkes are life-enhancing.

We believe tassels are the earrings of the home.

We believe in our muses: David Hicks, Alexander Girard,
Bonnie Cashin. Hans Coper, Gio Ponti, Andy Warhol, Leroy Neiman,
Yves Saint Laurent, and Madonna.

We believe in the innate chicness of red with brown.

We believe in being underdressed or overdressed always.

We believe in infantile, happy emblems like butterflies and hearts.

We believe celebrities should pay full price.

We believe in rustic modernism: Big Sur, A-Frame beach houses,
raw beams, and geodesic dome homes.

We believe in Palm Beach style:
Louis chairs, chinoiserie, Lilly Pulitzer, The Breakers circa '72.

We believe our designs are award winning even though
they've never actually won any.

We believe in Aid to Artisans.

We believe dogs should be allowed in stores and restaurants.

We believe in mantiques - suits of armour,
worn chesterfield sofas, heraldic tapestries.

We believe you should throw out your Blackberry
and go pick some actual blackberries.

We believe colors can't clash.

We believe in blowing your nest egg on our pots.

We believe our lamps will make you look younger and thinner.

We believe in irreverent luxury.
AND then there are the items in his fabulous store! Here are few to wet your whistle ....

needlepoint pillows

A needlepoint backgammon board - which i have no idea how to play, but I would learn for this!

I love the colour combination of the playing card set and the dreidel!

And then there is BARBIE! Yes BARBIE - Oh Jonathan you really do know how to bring out the child within! An absolute must for the princess within!

So if you're having a day where you need a pick me up, jump onto Jonathan Adler's website or better still grab your favourite drink, sit down and ponder the pages of his fabulous book, My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living. Your day will certainly become 'colourful'!

Hello Yellow

The other day whilst entertaining a dear friend our conversation, like so many others leads to our love of interiors and furniture. My friend was looking around at my bits and bobs and asked me what my affiliation with yellow was.

I wasn't quite prepared for this one and was a little stumped by her question! I really didn't think I had much yellow colour in my house. In actually fact I was struggling with colors for my interiors as living a transient life you never know where your next move will be to or what premises you will live in next.

So I took a look around my living area and I had to agree with her, there was definitely highlights of yellow scattered around, mainly in the Indonesian Contemporary Artwork that graces my walls and the odd nick nack collected from my asian travels.

I really didn't hadn't realized this before, so my response to her was I guess I am looking for the sunshine amongst the polluted skies of Jakarta!

So without further ado, here is a ray of sunshine for you! enjoy ....
